Jimmy Pouchert

Nick name: Unpronounceable

Born: Oct. 12th, 1966

Height: 6’

Weight: 175 lbs.

Hair: Brown

Eyes: Brown

Home (Drop Zone): Moab, Utah

Describe your character: I’m out to have a good time. If I’m not laughing, then I’m asleep.

Air sport, when and where did you start: I started skydiving in 1991, started BASE in 1998. I now have about 4,000 skydives and 800 BASE jumps.

Fame: Did a reverse bungee for Stunt Junkies. Member of Perris Valley Structure Fire freefly team for about 5 years. Various shows teaching people how to BASE jump- racecar driver Gunnar Jeannette on MTV’s Real Life, National Geographic’s ”The Adventurist” teaching the host Joby Ogwyn.

First flight: I had made my own wingsuit in about 1997 out of my RW suit from pictures that I were published in some magazine about Patrick’s suit and ended up at a boogie in Hawaii with Patrick DeGuyardon himself. I showed him my suit and asked if he thought that I would die jumping it or if it was ok. He said it looked ok and I asked if he would go fly with me? He looked me up and down, thought a moment, and said, ”why not”? So my first wingsuit flight was with the original master through cloud valleys above the island of Oahu.

Most memorable flight: The first one with Patrick and the Eiger.

Longest (BASE) flight: The Eiger

Why do you jump: Not an option. Have to.

What do you still want to do in the air: Now BASE wingsuiting is all that I can think about. Not to set any records or impress anyone or do better than anyone, just to see the visuals that wingsuiting allows humans. It’s different watching a video and seeing something with your own eyes. BASE jumping a wingsuit changed my perspective forever.

Your advise to somebody who wants to get started: Take your time. What’s the rush?

Greatest aviation accomplishment of all time: Don’t really have one, I tried to invent the airplane one time, but they already had a bunch.

I want to give thanks to: My wife Marta, for giving me the knowlege not to kill myself and for having the nicest butt I have ever seen.

I fly: The S3 and Blade

Other sponsors: Go Fast

Testimonial (about BIRDMAN): Best suits out there for quality workmanship.

Who is Jimmy Pouchert

Jimmy Pouchert (pronounced Powchert) moved to Perris California after snowboarding full time for 5 years in Colorado. He moved to Perris to focus on skydiving. During the 5 years he spent in Perris at one of the world’s largest dropzones, he was sponsored by the dropzone to train with his team, Perris Valley Structure Fire.

The team’s main focuses were freeflying and canopy swooping. Jimmy worked as an instructor for the Flyboyz freefly school. He also got his parachute rigging license from the F.A.A. and worked full time at the parachute loft on the dropzone.

While doing a freefly seminar in Hawaii, Jimmy met Marta and they became fast friends. Eventually Marta moved to Perris, and their relationship became serious. Getting married and moving Marta’s longtime business, Vertigo Base Outfitters to Moab, Utah was the beginning of an incredible journey.

Vertigo and Basic Research merged in 2004, becoming the largest BASE manufacturer in the world – Apex BASE. Jimmy and Marta are in charge of BASE -courses and events, as well as test jumping in Utah, while Apex Perris has taken over production.

It is difficult to find Jimmy without a smile on his face. Recently, Jimmy has appeared in several television productions with the most recent being two shows for Discovery Channel’s Stunt Junkies. Jimmy was the primary talent – he reverse-bungeed 400 feet into the air in a narrow canyon, released himself from the bungee and BASE jumped back to safety on the ground.

The second Stunt Junkie show was Jimmy’s wife Marta BASE jumping from the top of a moving semi truck, as it travelled across the Forest Hill bridge in Auburn California.
