Birdman is Authorized Dealer for Parajumpers jackets

Parajumpers is a new Italian brand inspired and named for the 210th Rescue Squadron in Anchorage, Alaska. The names of each of the styles—like Gobi, Denali and Kodiak —are names of legendary missions to which the Parajumpers dedicated their jackets.

Manufactured in Italy, the line of outerwear fuses function, highly technical components and chic looks, all expertly designed by Massimo Rossetti (formerly of Diesel, Woolrich, Valentino and Barbour among others).

For the Fall / Winter 2009 collection, jackets come in heavy weights and feature special material that’s both water-repellent, durable and warm.

Multiple pockets and laces make transporting iPods, GPS devices and mobile phones eliminating the need for carrying a bag when out adventuring, whether in the urban streets or back country trails. For even more functionality, zippers run along the inner leg that open to reveal a mesh lining providing extra ventilation.

You are anytime welcome to come and see the physical products on our factory store in the middle of Helsinki. Open Mon – Fri 9 – 18, or go to the web store.

Shin flies distance

On September 19th and 20th 2009, Japanese wingsuit pilot Shinichi Ito, makes a couple of the record for non-powered, human-self flight over the suburbs of Davis, California, U.S.A. SkyDance Skydiving. At the altitude 33,470 ft (10.2km), he flew the longest distance of 10.19 miles (16.4 km).

Best free fall was 5 minutes and 22 seconds. The Max horizontal speed was 194.48 mph (313 km/h) with his “flying squirrel” Wingsuit by BirdMan Inc.

Although he broke his own record just made last June, due to the aircraft not being able to reach the planned altitude, he was imposed to fly from a low height, and the establishment of a new world record, unfortunately, was not reached .

However, Shinichi replaces two 2nd place world records made by the British skydiver adventurer Adrian Nicholas (deceased by flight accident, 2005) in September, 1999, at the very same place of Davis, CA, of 9.94 miles (16 km) at the flight altitude of 33,850 ft, and free fall time of 4 minutes 55 seconds.

Next time, changing the aircraft and also with a new wingsuit by BirdMan Inc, he will be making another bid for breaking the current world record marked in 2005, altitude of 35,000 ft, 12.74 miles (20.5 km) flying distance and free fall time 6 minutes 5 seconds. (Scheduled on June, 2010)

The details of Shinichi’s flight are written on the blog and website below:

New Finnish instructors and one Chief Instructor

In a recent BMCI and BMI course in Utti, Finland a few good men got their BirdMan Instructor (BMI) rating and one his BirdMan Chief Instructor rating.

The three day course started on friday and ended on sunday resulting in 5 new BMI’s with a fresh rating to teach skydivers the art of flying. BirdMan Chief Instructor Jari Kuosma conducted the course together with newly rated BMCI Tero Paukku.

Despite of the very bad prognosis for the weather the gods were once in our favor and all planned jumps were made. The theory and practice lasted till late in the evening and gave everybody a full challenge.

Tero Paukku, BMCI – 16

Tero Paukku who has been a BMI since 2006 and a very active instructor and jumper earned a very rare BirdMan Chief Instructor rating. Tero is number 16 of all times and one of a few active ones. You can contact Tero for BMI courses at tero@bird-man.com.

Congratulations!
